PATROL LEADERS' COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

AUGUST 22, 2006

TROOP 272

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA

 

7:00 p.m. - Opening and call to order (led by Patrol Leader)

7:05 p.m. - Roll call and reading of the log (minutes) (led by Troop Scribe)

 

ASM Gary Cunningham, SM John McCarthy, SPL Michael H., and PL Michael W. were present.

Also present was Troop Committee Member RoxeAnne Welch.

 

In lieu of an acting Troop Scribe, the Scoutmaster agreed to act as Troop Scribe for this meeting.

 

The minutes for the previous meeting on July 25, 2006 were read and accepted.

7:10 p.m. - Patrol Reports (given byPatrol Leader)

 

 

Michael H. and Michael W. reported that the Mackinac Island Outing from Sunday-Thursday, August 13-17, 2006 went well.

 

Michael H. reported that some of our Scouts either forgot to bring necessary gear on this outing or just forgot to bring it to the sites where they needed to have it.

 

He summarized the reflection which the troop conducted at this outing:

  • everyone liked the food;
  • we needed to bring better clothes for the weather (e.g. cool mornings);
  • we needed to have ponchos;
  • we should have conducted a pre-trip shakedown;
  • the trip to Mackinac Island went well;
  • and there was a bit of wandering.

 

Michael H. said that the outing was a lot of fun and that tubing would have been nice.

 

Michael W. said that the hike at Black Mountain went well; that it was fun, but a bit long.

 

He said that on the last day of the outing, there was plenty of leftover food; the troop broke camp between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.; and that the Roger City Lighthouse was closed.

 

Michael H. said that the troop arrived about an hour late on Sunday evening; the trip was about five hours long, rather than four hours long.

 

He said that each Scout either ate their sack lunch on the road or when they arrived at the campsite.

 

He said that the tents got set up and that the windy conditions made fire building hard.

 

He said that the Scouts got lots of requirements done.

 

Michael W. said that there was too much Nintendo.

 

He said that there was a lot of walking and bird watching at the falls.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

7:20 p.m. - Old Business (led by SPL)

 

No old business was discussed.

7:31 p.m. - Big event/monthly outing planning (led by SPL)

 

The PLC discussed the Burchfield Park Family Picnic.

 

The PLC agreed to the following schedule for this outing:

  • start: 2:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. ;
  • awards: 2:30 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. ;
  • break: 2:45 p.m. - 2:50 p.m. ;
  • game: 2:50 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. ;
  • eat: 4:30 p.m. -6:00 p.m.

 

The PLC went on to discuss the Recruitment Night scheduled for the Troop Meeting on September 19, 2006.

 

Michael H. mentioned that his brother Bryant and his friend Andy might come.

 

Michael W. agreed to contact Mrs. Dennany, the Den Leader of the Webelos 2 Den of Pack 640 to invite this den to this event.

 

The PLC decided that the theme for this event would be "What is Scouting?".

 

The PLC agreed to the following schedule for this event:

  • 6:30 p.m - set up for event;
  • 7:00 p.m. - pass out troop info and conduct slide show;
  • 7:15 p.m - have SPL and PL's talk about Scouting and introduce adult leaders of troop;
  • 7:45 p.m. - have SPL and PL's talk about camping on outings and display a monkey bridge;
  • 8:15 p.m. - play games;
  • 8:30 p.m. - end of event.

 

The PLC agreed to invite the Webelos 2 Den to join us at the Ojibwas District Fall Camporee.

 

The PLC went on to discuss the Annual Program Planning Conference.

 

The PLC agreed to conduct this conference at the Scoutmaster's home on Saturday, September 30, according to the following schedule

  • 9:00 a.m - arrive;
  • 9:10 a.m. - Session 1;
  • 9:50 a.m - break;
  • 10:10 a.m. - Session 2;
  • 10:50 a.m - break;
  • 11:10 a.m. - Session 3;
  • 11:50 a.m - lunch;
  • 12:30 p.m - depart;

7:49 - Troop meeting planning (led by SPL)

 

The PLC planned the troop meetings for September:

8:10 p.m. New Business (led by SPL)

 

The next PLC meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, September 26, 2006.

8:25 p.m. Scoutmaster's Minute (led by Scoutmaster)

 

The Scoutmaster commended the PLC for their work.

8:30 p.m. The meeting was adjourned by theSPL.
