General Information on Accommodations
Here is a list of hotels near Michigan State. The Wild Goose Inn, The East Lansing Marriott, and The Kellogg Center are all within walking distance of the math department (each is roughly a 15-20 minute walk from Wells Hall).
Getting to East Lansing
There are two options for flying into the East Lansing area:
Lansing's Capital City Airport (LAN) is the closest, but its flight options are sometimes a bit limited due to its small size. Nonetheless, I'd recommend using it if you can find flights that fit your schedule.
Detroit's Metropolitan Airport (DTW) is the nearest major airport. It's roughly 80 miles from Michigan State. The Michigan Flyer (a luxury coach bus service) provides ground transportation from DTW to East Lansing several times a day. The Flyer will drop you off about a block from MSU campus, within walking distance of the math department (a 15-20 minute walk).
There are also bus and train options, listed here.
Parking, and Getting Around Campus
The math department is located in the C wing of Wells Hall. Spartan Stadium's visitor pay lot (Lot 79) is probably the easiest place to reliably find parking. It is across Red Cedar Rd from Wells Hall, off of Shaw Ln. Another visitor lot is Lot 39 (also off of Shaw Ln). Lot 39 is sometimes free during breaks. Permits are required outside of the visitor pay lots.
Dinner and/or Drinks Near Campus
I will forgo providing a detailed list here: ask a local for specific suggestions. However, there are several decent restaurants and bars within a few blocks of here. In short: In this neighborhood I like BAPS for Korean, and either Beggar's Banquet or Hop Cat for beer + food.
