7:00 p.m. - Opening and call to order
(led by Patrol Leader) |
7:05 p.m. - Roll call and reading of the
log (minutes) (led by Troop Scribe) |
|
Both members of the PLC, SPL Nathan and PL Jacob, were present
for this meeting. In lieu of an acting Troop Scribe, the Scoutmaster agreed to act as
Troop Scribe for this meeting. The minutes for the previous meeting on October 25, 2005 were read and accepted. |
7:10 p.m. - Patrol Reports (given by
Patrol Leader) |
|
Jacob reported on the Program Planning Conference on
November 19, 2005. He mentioned that the planning went well. Jacob and
Nathan said that they both thought that the conference was fun. |
|
Jacob mentioned that we need to fill more
positions of troop responsibility. |
|
Nathan mentioned that we need to have at
least one other person on the PLC to help out at the PLC meetings. |
|
Jacob mentioned that he would like to have
Michael serve as Assistant Patrol Leader. Dr. McCarthy approved this
suggestion. Nathan, Jacob, and Dr. McCarthy all agreed that Michael has
demonstrated the leadership required for this position. |
7:30 p.m. - Old Business |
|
Nathan reported that the design of the
Patrol Flag is still in the early stages. Jacob said that he approved of
the plans for this flag which Nathan showed to the troop at the Troop
Meeting on November 15. These plans included a rough sketch of the flag;
a sun rising over the horizon with the twelve points of the Scout Law on
the rays of the sun. Jacob mentioned that he showed these plans to a boy
who came to this meeting showing some interest in joining our troop.
Jacob said that it was helpful to be able to do this. |
|
Dr. McCarthy reported that Ethan promised to get the thank you card to GM written soon. |
|
Dr. McCarthy reported that the Troop
Committee met on November 15. At this meeting, they discussed plans for
a troop trailer. They reported to Dr. McCarthy that the troop should
proceed with Nathan's plans to build an enclosure for the McCarthy's
trailer. The Troop Committee wanted Nathan to understand, that it is
possible, but not definite, that the troop may obtain a trailer at some
point, which might make this enclosure obsolete. Dr. McCarthy asked
Nathan whether the troop was going to have to raise some money to build
this enclosure. Nathan said that he estimated the cost would be about
$45.00. He mentioned that he has the wood and nails for this project,
but other material, such as hinges, will need to be purchased. Dr.
McCarthy mentioned that the project should not be started until we have
a definite figure for the cost of the project. |
7:31 p.m. - Big event/monthly outing planning (led by SPL) |
|
The PLC discussed plans for:
|
|
The PLC drew up the following safety standards for this outing:
- restricted area - staked out by flags
- two lanes - separated by a minimum width of 25 feet
- one lane with a jump - on the far side of the other lane
- close supervision before 8:45 p.m. - at least one adult supervising the sledding at all times
before 8:45 p.m.
- from 8:45 - 9:45 p.m. - restricted to First Class and above
|
7:49 - Troop meeting planning (led by SPL) |
|
The PLC planned the troop meetings for
December:
|
8:10 p.m. New Business (led by SPL) |
|
Inventory of Troop 272's First Aid Kit - Dr. McCarthy
said that Ethan has agreed to be Troop Quartermaster. Nathan agreed to appoint
Ethan to this position. Dr. McCarthy said that he would record this appointment in
the troop records. Nathan agreed to ask Ethan to inventory the troop's first aid kit. |
|
Mrs. McCarthy's suggestion for a Meal Planning contest - Jacob
said that this was a good idea. The PLC agreed that this contest will be discussed at
the troop meeting on December 6 and submissions will be received and voted on at the troop meeting on
December 13. Nathan said that he could obtain a good walking stick
for a prize for this contest. Nathan suggested that we could also have a Best Cook contest. He suggested
that we could do this at the November outing at Nate's lot. |
|
Purchasing of unnecessary items - The PLC agreed that
groceries for outings can not be purchased until the troop supplies have been checked to see
whether we have any of the needed groceries already in our supplies. In order
to enforce this policy, meal planning must be done at least two troop meetings before
the outing in question, so that the person purchasing groceries for the outing has one week to
plan for his grocery shopping and then check the troop inventory at the following
meeting before purchasing these groceries. The PLC agreed that plans for purchasing groceries
must be approved by the SPL and the Scoutmaster before the groceries are bought. |
|
Olivet Baptist Church's invitation to Troop 272 to conduct
a Scout Sunday on January 8, 2005 - The PLC pointed out that Troop 272 is planning on attending
the Bertha Brock Outing on the weekend of Sunday January 8, 2006. They would like to have Troop
272 conduct a Scout Sunday at Olivet Baptist Church on the following weekend of Sunday, January 15, 2006.
They agreed to have a flag ceremony, the repeating of the Scout Oath, and a Scripture reading at the morning service. |
|
The next PLC meeting was scheduled for
Tuesday, December 20, 2005. |
8:25 p.m. Scoutmaster's Minute (led by Scoutmaster) |
