7:10 p.m. - Patrol Reports (given by Patrol Leader)
APL Nathan reported on the C. Paul Letts Memorial Thank You Weekend at Northwoods Scout Reservation on September 16-18, 2005. He said that the troop really didn't have any problems; that Jacob was good; and that the food was pretty good. He mentioned that there was a problem getting the bikes back in the trailer. He said that the campsite was crowded, but the outing was a lot of fun. He mentioned that he got an idea for a fire blower at this outing.
Michael mentioned that his birthday was celebrated during this outing.
Mr. Cunningham asked the PLC what the Scouts did on the outing. Nathan mentioned that they practiced shooting at the rifle range. He said that he shot a fake cougar at the rifle range. It was also mentioned that the Scouts went canoeing and bicycle riding during this outing. Nathan mentioned that the Scouts went mud bogging on their bicycles at this outing.
Michael reported on the Recruitment Night at the evening troop meeting on Tuesday, September 20, 2005. He said that it was the best Recruitment Night that Troop 272 has run. Dr. McCarthy added that he was very pleased with how well the Scouts ran this event. He reported that Mr. Michael Pacheco, the den leader of the Webelos den which visited us at this event, told Mrs. McCarthy that he was very impressed with how the Scouts led this event. Mr. Pacheco also told Mrs. McCarthy that his son had told him before this event that he did not want to join the Boy Scouts, but changed his mind about this after this event.
7:25 p.m. - Old business (led by SPL)
The PLC discussed the issue of making a patrol flag for the Rising Sun Patrol. They decided on the dimensions and the design for this flag. The flag will be 22 inches high by 24 inches wide with a 3 inch border on one end of the flag, which will be wrapped around a flagpole for this flag. The design of the flag will consist of half of a sun rising over a horizon with the rays of the sun formed by the 12 points of the Scout Law. ASPL Nathan agreed to make this flag for the troop.
Mr. Cunningham reported that he has the troop neckerchiefs and will get a friend of his at his workplace to embroider the troop number, 272, onto these neckerchiefs. The PLC decided to have the troop numbers embroidered in the same color as the thin yellow borders which have already been put onto these neckerchiefs.
Nathan reported on his plans for an enclosure for the Scoutmaster's trailer. The PLC approved these plans as a back-up plan in case the troop is unable to obtain a troop trailer. The PLC agreed to revisit this issue in about a month, after we hear back from the Troop Committee about any prospects for the troop to obtain a troop trailer.
Dr. McCarthy reported that he will be visiting the second year Webelos den meeting of Pack 640 on Wednesday, September 28, at which he expects to get a final decision regarding which of the Webelos Scouts in this den will join Troop 272 at the Mawanjidiwin District Fall Camporee.
