The Scoutmaster agreed to act as Troop Scribe for this meeting.

The minutes for the previous meeting on July 26, 2005 were read and accepted.
Dr. McCarthy added that Troop 272 had still not been contacted by Wal-Mart regarding our application for a matching grant for the Wal-Mart car wash fundraiser. He said that he did not expect to hear anymore from Wal-Mart regarding this application.
7:10 p.m. - Patrol Reports (given by Patrol Leader)
APL Nathan reported on the Lake Michigan outing of August 19-21, 2005. He said that the food was good, discussed some problems with Jacob's behavior on this outing, and reported that the troop completed a five-mile hike on this outing, with some deviation from the original plan for this hike, saw some beautiful sights along the way, and enjoyed a fun evening of swimming afterwards on Saturday night, which closed with a beautiful sunset.
Regarding discussions of problems with Scout's behavior, Dr. McCarthy mentioned that he had read some Scouting literature which counselled leaders to mix criticism with praise, in the interest of helping Scouts take the criticism to heart. SPL Ethan commented on the need to be fair in our judgements, pointing out that one should not make strong judgements on weak evidence. Mr. Cunningham said that he felt that the members of the troop, including the adult leaders, had been very critical of each other on this outing, and encouraged everyone to work on being more supportive of one another.
7:25 p.m. - Old business (led by SPL)
SPL Ethan agreed to provide specifications (e.g. dimensions) for the Rising Sun Patrol's flag to APL Nathan, who agreed to make this flag following these specifications.
SPL Ethan reported that the Troop Flag will be presented by Pastor Ed at the Court of Honor on October 4, 2005.
Dr. McCarthy agreed to provide APL Nathan with the length and width of the box on Dr. McCarthy's trailer. Nathan agreed to draw up plans for a removable cover which will be used to convert this trailer to an enclosed trailer for use on troop outings. The PLC agreed that they will then review Nathan's plans and make a decision regarding the implementation of these plans.
SPL Ethan reported that Mrs. Cunningham has informed Troop 272 that we will not be able to set up a bottle collection center at Olivet Baptist Church due to potential conflicts with a collection center which has already been set up at Olivet Baptist Church to support its youth group.
7:40 p.m. - Big event/monthly outing planning (led by SPL)

Dr. McCarthy agreed to provide the PLC with sample scripts for this Court of Honor. The PLC agreed to choose a final program for this event from these scripts.
7:55 p.m. - Troop meeting planning (led by SPL)
The PLC planned the troop meetings for September:
SPL Ethan suggested that a small form should be made for use at PLC Meetings, listing the advancement requirements which our Scouts need to complete their next rank(s). He indicated that this form would help the PLC to plan the Skills Instruction portion of our troop meetings.
8:10 p.m. New Business (led by SPL)
The PLC decided that the theme for the Recruitment Night on September 20, 2005 will be Camping. They agreed to invite the Webelos of Packs 640 and 700 of Holt, and friends of our Scouts, to this event. Dr. McCarthy agreed to send out the invitations to the Webelos. The PLC agreed that our Scouts will invite their friends.
The PLC agreed to invite the Webelos of Pack 640 of Holt to the Mawanjidiwin District Fall Camporee on Friday-Sunday, October 14-16, 2005. Dr. McCarthy agreed to send out the invitations to these Webelos.
There was no discussion regarding inventory of Troop 272's First Aid Kit.
Mrs. Butler discussed with the PLC her mother's generous offer to make neckerchiefs for Troop 272. Mrs. Butler showed the PLC some fabric which could be used to make these neckerchiefs. The fabric had a red, white, and blue pattern. SPL Ethan suggested a design requiring fabric with red, white, and blue stripes. The PLC agreed on Ethan's suggestion. Mrs. Butler agreed to try to find an appropriate fabric for this design.
The PLC discussed possible embroidery for these neckerchiefs, including the troop number, 272, and a thin gold border. Mrs. Butler agreed to bring one of Troop 141's neckerchiefs to our Troop Meeting/Board of Review on September 6, 2005, so that the PLC can make a final decision about the fabric and design of these neckerchiefs.
Mrs. Butler said that the fabric for these neckerchiefs would be donated to Troop 272, but she might have to ask Troop 272 to help out with the cost of the embroidery for these neckerchiefs. She inquired about the number of neckerchiefs which should be made. Dr. McCarthy pointed out that there were six Scouts in Troop 272. Mrs. Butler suggested that her mother should make twelve to thirteen neckerchiefs, so that we could have some extra neckerchiefs for our growing troop.
There was no discussion regarding Mrs. McCarthy's suggestion for a Meal Planning contest.
There was no discussion regarding the purchasing of unnecessary items.
SPL Ethan agreed to write a thankyou note to General Motors, after consulting with Mr. Cunningham about to whom this note should be sent.
There was no discussion regarding Olivet Baptist Church's invitation to Troop 272 to conduct a Scout Sunday on January 8, 2005.
The next PLC meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, September 27, 2005.
