Dear Scouts,
Mr. Kleiver has agreed to meet with us on June 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
Please put this down on your calendars.
We still need to determine a location for this meeting. I will ask Mrs. Koutsouvilis to try to reserve our usual meeting room at Trinity United Methodist Church for this meeting. I will let you know as soon as possible whether we were able to reserve this room, or will have to look for an alternative location.
I remind you that that the main purpose of this meeting with Mr. Kleiver on June 7 is for Mr. Kleiver to conduct a "shakedown" for the High Adventure Outing on August 6-9. Mr. Kleiver will be making sure that everyone is ready for this outing. You should come to this meeting with the personal gear which you will need for this outing, prepared to show Mr. Kleiver that you know how to properly pack your backpack. I remind you that on the first two days of this outing we will be hiking with our backpacks, over a course of approximately ten miles, from the drop off point to the base camp. We will stop along the way the first night of the outing to set up a temporary camp for the night before moving on to the base camp the next day, the second day of this outing.
I remind you that there is a helpful article on backpacks at:
http://www.netwoods.com/document/backpack.html
Mr. Kleiver recommends an external frame backpack as opposed to an internal frame backpack.
Thanks to Mr. Jones, we inherited some frames for backpacks earlier this year from a troop that folded. Mr. Kleiver suggested at the planning meeting for this outing back in March that we contact Raupp's on Michigan Avenue in Lansing to see if it would be possible to fit any packs to these frames. I have not yet looked into this matter.
Please let me know if you have any questions about what you need to do to be prepared for the "shakedown" on June 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at a location to be announced.
Best regards,
Scouter John
