John,
Yes there is an age restriction. We found out the first time we did it, that 13 - 14 was minimum. High adventure is set to be for the older boys after the 1st 3 ranks are attained, it keeps them interested by giving them an opportunity to push themselves a bit and still have fun.
The shakedown / lunch scenario you have suggested sounds good. I'll come up with some hot lunch entrees and get the list to you, hopefully this evening. How much of any item from the list will be determined by how many are eating. There will be a need for some cooking pots. 1 - 2 quart should work. The High adventure group should have something to boil water in. I apologize for I believe leaving that off of the list. One 2 quart pot can be shared by 2-3 scouts so it doesn't necessarily fit on the personal gear list. I'll have my own entree to cook. I'll go over suggested food items for cold lunches and other possibilities for a hot meal. I can bring the fuel for this event - that would be Coleman fuel / white gas.
Jim
