PINEWOOD DERBY

OFFICIAL RULES

1. Essential Materials: All cars entered shall be constructed from the Official Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kit as sold by the Scout Shop, 4000 W. Michigan Ave (Kits may be purchased elsewhere if they are of the exact type specified above.) CCP Specials shall be constructed of materials provided.

2. Competitor Categories: Scouts will compete with others in the same "Scout Year" or age group in 3 categories: Best Car Design & Paint, Most Unusual Design & Paint, and Fastest Car. Scouts will also compete for CCP Wide Bests in the same categories. Leaders & parents will compete against other leaders & parents only.

3. Attendance: Only the Scout may enter his or her car. This means that the Scout must be present to enter his car into competition.

4. "New Work": Construction of entries must not have begun before the previous year's CCP Pinewood Derby Race.

5. Technical Standards:


a. The width of the car shall not exceed 2 3/4 inches.
b. The length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.
c. The weight of the car shall not exceed 5 ounces.
d. Width between wheels 1 3/4 inches.
e. Bottom clearance between car and track 3/8 inch.
f. Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are prohibited.
g. The car shall not ride on any kind or type of springs.
h. Any details added must be within the length, width and weight limits.
i. The car must be freewheeling without starting device or propelling device.
j. "ADD-ONS" are not restricted. Special paint, decals, decorations, etc. are allowed. No loose material of any kind are allowed in the car.
k. Dry lubrication is allowed. Liquid or spray lubricants are not allowed. Lubrication must be applied prior to official check-in on race day.
