PATROL LEADERS' COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 28, 2004

TROOP 272
BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
7:00 p.m. - Opening and call to order (led by Senior Patrol Leader)
7:05 p.m. - Roll call and reading of the log (minutes) (led by Troop Scribe)
The Scoutmaster agreed to act as Troop Scribe for this meeting.
Present: SPL Ethan, Murphy Patrol Leader Michael, Murphy APL Nathan, ASM Gary Cunningham, SM John McCarthy, and Life Scout Jon from Troop 417.
The minutes for the previous meetings on June 22, 2004 were read and accepted.
7:10 p.m. - Patrol Reports (given by Patrol Leaders)
Murphy Patrol Leader Michael reported that Chris Cunningham completed the work on his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project on Friday, September 17 and submitted his Eagle Scout Rank Application to the Chief Okemos Council Service Center on Thursday, September 23, 2004. Chris is now waiting for his reference letters to be submitted to the Council and then for his Eagle Scout Board of Review to be scheduled.
Nathan has only to complete Tenderfoot Rank Requirements 7 (Oath, Law, motto, and slogan) and 13 (SM Conference) to be ready to take his Board of Review for advancement to the rank of Tenderfoot. Jacob Butler is also almost ready to advance to the rank of Tenderfoot. Aaron Walsh has several more requirements to complete before he will be able to advance to Tenderfoot.
Jacob Butler joined Troop 272 at the Recruitment Night on Tuesday, September 14, 2004.
7:25 p.m. - Old business (led by SPL)
Ethan noted that the Murphy Patrol still needs to choose a patrol name, yell, and flag.
The SM reported that the Webelos den of Pack 640 of Horizon Elementary in Holt has accepted Troop 272's invitation to camp with us at the Ojibwas District Fall Camporee (SCOD Five) on October 8-10, 2004. Three Webelos, each with one of their parents, will be camping with us at this camporee on both Friday night, October 8, and Saturday night, October 9.
7:40 p.m. - Big event/monthly outing planning (led by SPL)
The PLC planned the activities for October:
Jon inquired about serving on staff at SCOD Five on either Friday night or on Saturday after 2:00 p.m.. The SM agreed to contact the Camporee Chief Joe Pulver about this issue.
The PLC discussed Mrs. Jeanette Hensler's request for information regarding what the Webelos Scouts in her den should bring to SCOD Five. It was agreed that Ethan, Michael, and Nathan would give a presentation on this issue at this den's meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2004 at Horizon Elementary in Holt. Jon indicated that he might attend this presentation. Nathan agreed to prepare a poster board for this presentation.
The PLC agreed that each Webelos Scout would bring a tent for himself and his accompanying parent. The SM agreed to bring a tent for himself and his assistant leader, Joe Walsh. Nathan agreed to bring a tent for himself, Michael, and Jacob. The PLC agreed to ask Mr. Walsh to bring a tent for Aaron and Ethan.
No decision was made concerning breakfast on Sunday.
The PLC agreed that meals for this outing would be handled as follows:
  • Nathan will cook for himself and the three Webelos from Pack 640, a breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday to satisfy First Class Rank Requirements 4a-e. One of Troop 272's other Scouts would assist Nathan at each of these meals.
  • Michael will prepare a dinner on Friday and a lunch on Saturday.
  • Ethan will prepare a dinner on Friday and a breakfast on Saturday.
  • Aaron will prepare a lunch and a dinner on Saturday.
7:55 p.m. Troop Meeting Planning (led by SPL)
The PLC planned the troop meetings for October:
The PLC agreed that the meeting on October 12 will be devoted to planning a field trip to Ann Arbor to conduct a Popcorn Sale.
The SM agreed to work on setting up a Popcorn Sale for Saturday, October 2, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at one of the local stores (e.g. L & L, Family Video, etc.).
8:10 p.m. New Business (led by SPL)
The next PLC meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, October 26, 2004.
8:25 p.m. Scoutmaster's Minute (led by Scoutmaster)
The Scoutmaster commended the PLC for their work.
8:30 p.m. The meeting was adjourned by the SPL.
