A Brief Patriotic Opening (7:05 p.m.)
Ethan turns the lights off.
Michael shines a spotlight on the U.S. flag.
Nathan, Jacob, and Aaron come forward.
Nathan lights the red candle and says:
"The red of my flag stands for the life blood of brave men, ready to die or worthily live for this, our country."
Jacob lights the white candle and says:
"The white of my flag stands for purity, cleanness of purpose, thought, word, and deed."
Aaron lights the blue candle and says:
"The blue of my flag stands for truth and justice, like the eternal blue of the star-filled heavens."
All five Scouts salute the U.S. flag.
Michael says:
"My flag -the flag of America, home of liberty, land of opportunity, where men of all races live in peace and friendship together".
Introduction of the Court (7:10 p.m.)
Ethan says:
"Two! Lights!"
Michael blows out the three candles.
Nathan turns the lights on.
Ethan comes forward and says:
"Please join me in welcoming the members of our Court of Honor, Troop Committee Chairman Cathy McCarthy, Scoutmaster John McCarthy, and Assistant Scoutmaster Joe Walsh."
Mrs. McCarthy, Dr. McCarthy, and Mr. Walsh take their places behind the table.
Mr. Walsh says:
"Please stand and join me in prayer..."
Mrs. McCarthy says:
"This Court of Honor is hereby convened to recognize the achievements of the Scouts of BSA Troop 272. Please be seated."
Mrs. McCarthy and Mr. Walsh take their seats.
All five Scouts take their seats.
Friends of Scouting Presentation (7:15 p.m.)
Recognition Ceremony (7:30 p.m.)
Mr. Walsh says:
"We wish to recognize the Scouts of Troop 272 for achievements which they have made since our last troop Court of Honor in November of 2004."
The Scouts come forward.
Mr. Walsh reviews the merit badges which were earned by the Scouts during this quarter:
  • Eagle Bound Merit Badge Blitz - Ethan McCarthy and Nathan Truelove attended this blitz in early February and early March. Ethan completed the Computers merit badge, and made significant progress on the Family Life merit badge. Nathan completed the Fingerprinting and First Aid merit badges, and made significant progress on the Crime Prevention merit badge.
Mr. Walsh hands Nathan his First Aid merit badge and shakes his hand.
Mrs. McCarthy reviews other achievements which the Scouts earned in the winter of 2004.

  • Bertha Brock - Fri-Sun, January 14-16, 2005. On this outing, Troop 272 joined Troop 33 of Lansing, Troop 316 of Lansing, Troop 520, and Troop 585 of Elsie/Ovid at Bertha Brock County Park in Ionia, Michigan, for a weekend of winter sports. We stayed in the Palmer Lodge at Bertha Brock County Park.
  • Annual Eagle Scout & Volunteer Recognition Dinner - SM John McCarthy, SPL Ethan McCarthy, ASM Gary Cunningham, and Troop Committee Advancement Chair Donna Cunningham attended this important recognition event in early February. Eagle Scouts Chris Cunningham and Steven McCarthy were among the many Eagle Scouts in the Chief Okemos Council recognized at this event.
  • Eagle Scout Court of Honor - Friday, February 11, 2005. At this event, Troop 272 recognized our first two Eagle Scouts, Steven McCarthy and Chris Cunningham, for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in 2004.
  • Holt Area Bottle Drive - In late February, Troop 272 raised $172.80, $103.70 of which was credited to participating Scouts personal accounts.
  • Recruitment Night - In early March, Troop 272 conducted a recruitment night. Mrs. Barbara Oyer brought two Webelos Scouts from her Webelos den. Our Scouts demonstrated First Aid skills to these Webelos Scouts, giving them an opportunity to complete some of their requirements for the Readyman badge.
  • Yankee Springs Orienteering - In early April, Troop 272 conducted an outing to Yankee Springs.
  • Jacob Butler has completed all requirements for Second Class Rank except for his Board of Review. Aaron Walsh has completed all requirements for Tenderfoot Rank except for his Board of Review.
Mr. Walsh says:

Mr. Walsh, Dr. McCarthy, and the Scouts return to their seats.
Northwoods Orientation (7:45 p.m.)

Mrs. McCarthy comes forward and says:
"I want to congratulate all you Scouts for your accomplishments. We are proud to have each of you as a member of Troop 272."
Mrs. McCarthy says:
"This Court of Honor is now adjourned. Please rise as the Scouts conduct the closing flag ceremony."
