Scout Law Ceremony (7:35 p.m.)
Scoutmaster:
Honored guests, ladies and gentlemen, Troop 272 believes earnestly in the Scout motto, "Be Prepared", and in the ideals of service as given in the Scout slogan, "Do a Good Turn Daily". We meet regularly to practice the skills of Scouting and to have fun. From time to time we go hiking and camping so we might learn more of the great outdoors and at the same time develop qualities of health and self-reliance. In Scouting, as in the game of football or any other sport or activity, we must have rules. The rules of Scouting are found in the twelve points of the Scout Law. As I light each of the twelve candles in front of me, representing the twelve points of the Scout Law, I would like to have the troop repeat these points after me.
Scoutmaster:
Troop, attention! Scout sign!
Scoutmaster/Troop:
(lights first candle) A Scout is trustworthy/ A Scout is trustworthy.
..........
Scoutmaster/Troop:
(lights twelfth candle) A Scout is reverent/ A Scout is reverent.
Scoutmaster:
Scouts, stand at ease!
Scoutmaster blows out candles.
Introduction of the Court (7:40 p.m.)
Senior Patrol Leader:
"Please join me in welcoming the members of our Court of Honor, Troop Committee Chairman Cathy McCarthy, Scoutmaster John McCarthy, and Assistant Scoutmaster Gary Cunningham."
Court of Honor takes places behind the table.
Mr. Cunningham:
"Please stand and join me in prayer..."
Mrs. McCarthy:
"This Court of Honor is hereby convened to recognize the achievements of the Scouts of Troop 272. Please be seated."
Tenderfoot Ceremony (7:45 p.m.)
Scoutmaster:
"Senior Patrol Leader, who has earned the rank of Tenderfoot?"
Senior Patrol Leader:
"Sir, Jacob Butler and Nathan Truelove have earned this rank."
Aaron shines spotlight on easel.
Jacob and Nathan step in front of easel.
Scoutmaster:
"Jacob and Nathan, tonight we are recognizing you for earning the rank of Tenderfoot, your first rank as a Boy Scout. By earning this rank, you have shown some abilities in camping and outdoor skills, some basic first aid techniques, and are learning about the patrol system. You have learned the Scout Oath, Law, motto and slogan and explained what they mean to you. Your final step was to participate in your first Scoutmaster conference and your first Board of Review where you have satisfied your Scoutmaster and the Board that you were indeed qualified and worthy of the rank of Tenderfoot Scout. This is the first step in a long journey towards Eagle, the highest rank in Scouting. Congratulations and best wishes as you continue on your journey towards Eagle."
Scoutmaster pins Tenderfoot Badges on Jacob's and Nathan's left shirt pockets, hands them their Tenderfoot certificates, and gives them the Scouting handshake.
Jacob and Nathan return to their places.
Other Recognitions (7:55 p.m.)
Scoutmaster blows out all candles.
