Opening Flag Ceremony (7:30 p.m.)
Chris comes forward and says:

A Brief Patriotic Opening (7:35 p.m.)
Ethan turns the lights off.
Michael shines a spotlight on the U.S. flag.
Chris, Steven, and Ethan come forward.
Chris lights the red candle and says:
"The red of my flag stands for the life blood of brave men, ready to die or worthily live for this, our country."
Steven lights the white candle and says:
"The white of my flag stands for purity, cleanness of purpose, thought, word, and deed."
Ethan lights the blue candle and says:
"The blue of my flag stands for truth and justice, like the eternal blue of the star-filled heavens."
All four Scouts salute the U.S. flag.
Chris says:
"My flag -the flag of America, home of liberty, land of opportunity, where men of all races live in peace and friendship together".
Introduction of the Court (7:45 p.m.)
Chris says:
"Two! Lights!"
Ethan blows out the three candles.
Steven turns the lights on.
Chris comes forward and says:
"Please join me in welcoming the members of our Court of Honor, Troop Committee Chairman Cathy McCarthy, Scoutmaster John McCarthy, and Assistant Scoutmaster Gary Cunningham."
Mrs. McCarthy, Dr. McCarthy, and Mr. Cunningham take their places behind the table.
Mr. Cunningham says:
"Please stand and join me in prayer..."
Mrs. McCarthy says:
"This Court of Honor is hereby convened to recognize the achievements of the Scouts of BSA Troop 272. Please be seated."
Mrs. McCarthy and Mr. Cunningham take their seats.
All four Scouts take their seats.
Recognition Ceremony (7:50 p.m.)
Mr. Cunningham says:
"We wish to recognize the Scouts of Troop 272 for achievements which they have made since our last Court of Honor in September.
The Scouts come forward.
Dr. McCarthy reviews the merit badges which were earned by the Scouts during this quarter:
  • Chris Cunningham - Architecture, Art, Communications, Environmental Science, Family Life, Music, Personal Fitness, and Pets Merit Badges
  • Steven McCarthy - Family Life Merit Badge
"Dr. McCarthy reviews other achievements which the Scouts have made during this quarter."
  • Ethan McCarthy - submitted joke to Boys' Life magazine, published in April, 2004 issue, awarded certificate and prize
  • Camp Rotary Cope Course - Troop 272 joined Troop 33 in September for a challenging cope course at Camp Rotary.
  • Chief Okemos Council Fall 2003 Popcorn/Candy Sale - Troop 272 sold $166.00 of popcorn and candy, $41.08 to participating Scouts' personal accounts, patches for participating Scouts
  • Troop Open House - Troop 272 conducted a membership drive in November.
  • Recharter - This drive enabled us to recharter in December, with the help of our new chartering organization, Olivet Baptist Church.
  • Pokagon Toboggan Outing - Our new Scout, Michael Hannah, went on his first outing with our troop, in February, under challenging conditions, camping out on a cold winter night.
  • Mawanjidiwin District Recognition Dinner - SM John McCarthy and ASM Gary Cunningham attended this important recognition event in early March.
  • Charlotte Merit Badge Blitz - Ethan McCarthy attended this blitz in early March. He made significant progress on three merit badges: Computers, Coin Collecting, and Music.
  • Holt Area Bottle Drive - In late March, Troop 272 raised $189.20, $113.50 of which was credited to participating Scouts personal accounts
  • Chief Okemos Council Spring 2004 Popcorn/Candy Sale - Troop 272 sold $204.00 of popcorn and candy, $97.20 of which was credited to participating Scouts personal accounts, patches for participating Scouts
  • Scouting for Food Drive - Troop 272 collected 170 pounds of non-perishable food and personal items; Troop 272 distributed this to the Holt Community Food Bank
Mr. Cunningham says:

Mr. Cunningham, Dr. McCarthy, and the Scouts return to their seats.
Closing Flag Ceremony (8:00 p.m.)
Mrs. McCarthy comes forward and says:
"I want to congratulate all you Scouts for your accomplishments. We are proud to have each of you as a member of Troop 272."
Mrs. McCarthy says:
"This Court of Honor is now adjourned. Please rise as the Scouts conduct the closing flag ceremony."
Chris comes forward and says:
