Honored guests, ladies and gentlemen, Troop 272 believes
earnestly in the Scout motto, "Be Prepared", and in the ideals of
service as given in the Scout slogan, "Do a Good Turn Daily". We meet
regularly to practice the skills of Scouting and to have fun. From time to time
we go hiking and camping so we might learn more of the great outdoors and at the
same time develop qualities of health and self-realiance. In Scouting, as in the
game of football or any other sport or activity, we must have rules. The rules of
Scouting are found in the twelve points of the Scout Law. As I light each of the
twelve candles in front of me, representing the twelve points of the Scout Law, I
would like to have the troop repeat these points after me. |

|

"Please stand and join me in prayer..."
|
Mrs. McCarthy: |
"This Court of Honor is hereby convened to recognize the achievements of the Scouts of Troop 272. Please be seated." |
 |
Tenderfoot Ceremony (7:45 p.m.) |
Scoutmaster: |
"Senior Patrol Leader, who has earned the rank of Tenderfoot?" |
Senior Patrol Leader: |
"Sir, Anthony McAtee has earned this rank." |
Steven shines projector on easel. |
Anthony steps in front of easel. |
Ethan turns on lantern, closet and nursery lights. |
Mr. Cunningham turns out front lights. |
Scoutmaster: |
"Anthony, tonight we are recognizing you for earning the rank of Tenderfoot, your first rank as a Boy Scout. By earning this rank, you have shown some abilities in camping and outdoor skills, some basic first aid techniques, and are learning about the patrol system. You have learned the Scout Oath, Law, motto and slogan and explained what they mean to you. Your final step was to participate in your first Scoutmaster conference and your first Board of Review where you have satisfied your Scoutmaster and the Board that you were indeed qualified and worthy of the rank of Tenderfoot Scout. This is the first step in a long journey towards Eagle, the highest rank in Scouting. Congratulations and best wishes as you continue on your journey towards Eagle." |
Scoutmaster pins Tenderfoot Badge on Anthony's left
shirt pocket, hands Anthony Tenderfoot certificate, gives Anthony the Scouting handshake. |
 |
Life Scout Ceremony (7:50 p.m.) |
Mr. Cunningham: |
"Will Dr. and Mrs. McCarthy and their son Ethan
please come forward for the Life Scout ceremony?"
|
Mr. Cunningham lights two candles next to Life Scout certificate, miniature badge, and pin. |
Mr. Cunningham: |
"Ethan, you have travelled far on the trail to Eagle. Before you, two lit candles shed their radiance on the heart-shaped Life Scout badge. I am proud of the effort you have put forth and of your accomplishments in Scouting. The heart shape of the badge is symbolic of life and courage. For you, now, the Scout Oath and the Scout Law will mean more than ever before. You will ever strive to make them the keynotes of your conduct. The spirit of helpfulness and alertness of mind, and the mastery of those Scout skills that make "Be Prepared" really mean something - these are the inner qualities of the Scout who wears the Life Scout badge. This miniature badge is for your mother - in recognition of her love, comradeship, encouragement, and faith in you. Take it and pin it on her proudly." |
Ethan pins Life Scout miniature badge on Mrs. McCarthy shirt. |
Mr. Cunningham: |
"Dr. McCarthy, will you present your son, Ethan, with the Life Scout certificate?" |
Dr. McCarthy gives Life Scout certificate to Ethan. |
Mr. Cunningham: |
"Attention! Scout Salute! Two! Dismissed." |
Ethan stands at attention, salutes Mr. Cunningham. |

Patrol Leader Installations (8:00 p.m.) |
Scoutmaster: |
"One of the most important aspects of Boy Scouting is that Boy Scout troops are "boy-led". The Scouts of a Boy Scout troop elect their Senior Patrol Leader. The Scouts of each patrol of a Boy Scout troop elect their Patrol Leader. These leaders appoint, in consultation with the Scoutmaster, the other boy leaders of the troop and its patrols." |
"All of these "junior leaders", by serving in their "junior leader positions", are trained to become leaders. This program of junior leadership is perhaps the single most important reason why the Boy Scouts of America have a sterling reputation of training young boys to become mature men, strong leaders in their home, their church, and their communities." |
"These junior leaders make it possible for the troop to deliver the promise of Scouting, to provide a well-rounded program of fun and challenging activities, the Boy Scouting "game with a purpose"." |
"At its meeting on Tuesday, June 3, Troop 272 conducted its biannual election for Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader. Steven McCarthy was elected to replace Ethan McCarthy as Senior Patrol Leader. Congratulations, Steven, and thank you, Ethan, for your service as Senior Patrol Leader over the last six months." |
"Ethan McCarthy was elected to replace Chris Cunningham as Murphy Patrol Leader. Congratulations, Ethan, and thank you Chris for your service as Murphy Patrol Leader over the last six months." |
|
"After the election, Chris Cunningham was appointed to replace Steven McCarthy as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. Congratulations, Chris, and thank you, Steven, for your service as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader over the last six months." |
|
"All of these boys, Steven, Chris, and Ethan, have faithfully attended Troop 272's monthly Patrol Leaders Council Meetings, working hard to plan the details of our monthly programs. We thank them all for their hard work and look forward to continuing to work with them as our Patrol Leaders Council for the next six months." |
New patrol leaders place left hand on flagpole,
above Scoutmaster's left hand, and salute. |
New patrol leaders: |
"I promise to do my best to be worthy of my office as patrol leader, for the sake of my fellow Scouts, my patrol, my troop, and the Scouting community." |
Scoutmaster: |
"I encourage you to study the Senior Patrol Leader Handbook and the Patrol Leader Handbook to help you to fulfill the duties of your offices. You are welcome to borrow my personal copies of these handbooks." |
 |
Closing Flag Ceremony (8:05 p.m.) |
Mrs. McCarthy: |
"I want to congratulate all of you Scouts for your accomplishments. We are proud to have each of you as a member of Troop 272." |
Mrs. McCarthy: |
"This Court of Honor is now adjourned. Please rise as the Scouts conduct the closing flag ceremony."
|
Senior Patrol Leader: |
"ATTENTION" |
"COLORGUARD, ATTENTION" |
"COLORGUARD, FORWARD MARCH" |
