Optimization of linear controllers:It is not good to mix H-2 with H-infinity
Alexander Megretskii
Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, MIT
H-2 and H-infinity control are the two optimization techniques used successfully in linear controller design.Recently, the idea of improving the existent methodology by"mixing" the objectives became popular. In the talk, the outcome of optimization with a mixed H-2/H-infinity criterionis proven to be not good. In particular, we show that a generic optimal mixed H-2/H-infinity controller is not exponentially stabilizing.A brief introduction into linear controller designwill be given, and some open mathematical problems of the fieldwill be formulated throughout the lecture.
