Here are some suggestions that could help you get a better grade in your calculus course

1) Try to work the homework problems without looking at your book or notes. If you get stuck on a problem, then refer to your book, notes, or a solutions manual if you have one.

Many students get in the habit of first looking at the answer in the back of the book and then trying to solve the homework problem. This is a bad habit since you are usually not provided with the answers on hour exams.

2) If you looked at your book, notes, or solutions manual to work a problem, then work the problem again, this time without peeking at the solution. Work all the homework problems assigned. Get help if you need to. Most problems on hour exams are like assigned homework, problems worked in class, or examples worked in the book. Sometimes they are the same. Other times they might be similar but have numbers or quantities changed a little.

3) If you follow steps 1 and 2, you will be in the habit of working problems without looking at the book, notes, etc., and you should do well on exams.
